Urgent Care Q & A

What is urgent care?

Urgent care services at Seby Medical Center include immediate evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for non-life-threatening emergencies. Examples include illnesses, injuries, and new or unusual symptoms that concern you.

However, if you or your child experiences a life-threatening emergency, head to the nearest emergency room or call 911.

Why might I need urgent care services?

The following conditions are examples of medical issues that may warrant an urgent care visit to Seby Medical Center:

  • High or long-lasting fevers
  • Minor burns or wounds
  • Strains or sprains
  • Rashes or hives
  • Insect or tick bites
  • Colds, flu, or COVID-19
  • Sore throats
  • Extreme fatigue
  • Dizziness
  • Ear or eye infections
  • Vomiting or diarrhea
  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)

When in doubt, call the Seby Medical Center office to find out if you should schedule an urgent care visit.

What happens during an urgent care visit?

When you arrive at Seby Medical Center for an urgent care appointment, compassionate staff members greet you. They check your temperature, weigh you, and check your pulse and blood pressure. Your provider asks questions about your symptoms and medical history.

Your care during your appointment depends on your illness or injury. For example, if you have a laceration, your urgent care specialist cleans the wound and stitches it, if necessary. If they think you may have a fracture, they recommend X-rays.

Your provider can wrap a sprain or write a prescription to treat an infection. If you have a sore throat or flu-like symptoms, they might swab your throat or the inside of your nose to test for strep, the flu, or COVID-19.

Seby Medical Center specialists may also recommend blood tests, an electrocardiogram (EKG), or other diagnostic procedures.

What are my urgent care treatment options?

Depending on your diagnosis, unique situation, and preferences, the Seby Medical Center team may suggest you undergo one of the following treatments:

  • Rest and fluids
  • Ice, compression, and elevation
  • Wearing a brace
  • Wound care
  • Over-the-counter medications
  • Prescription medications
  • Further diagnostic testing
  • Minor surgical procedures
  • A tetanus booster after a laceration

Your Seby Medical Center provider can refer you to highly trained specialists or a nearby hospital in the case of a complex medical problem or life-threatening emergency. They follow up with you as needed to ensure your recovery goes well.

At the first sign of a medical problem requiring urgent care, call the Seby Medical Center office or schedule an appointment online.
