Vaccinations Q & A

What are vaccinations?

Vaccines may contain weakened or dead germs or other substances that cause your body to develop immunity against certain types of illnesses. Vaccinations work by stimulating your body to produce specific antibodies against viruses or bacteria, thereby lowering your risk of contracting those diseases and illnesses.

Which vaccinations are available?

The types of vaccinations we offer include:

Flu

COVID-19

Chickenpox

Tetanus

Shingles

What should I expect when getting a vaccine?

There’s no special preparation needed before receiving a vaccination, which is typically an injection. Our vaccination provider will gently insert a tiny needle into your arm, leg, or other part of your body and slowly inject a substance beneath your skin, often into the muscle.

Each vaccination takes just a few seconds to administer and there’s little to no downtime afterward. During your vaccine appointment with us, you or your child might receive more than one vaccination.

What happens after I receive a vaccination?

After receiving a vaccination shot, you can expect temporary redness, swelling, or soreness at the injection site. With some vaccine types, you may also feel body aches, fatigue, chills, or a mild fever. Follow your vaccine provider’s instructions on whether it’s appropriate to try over-the-counter pain relievers. Call your doctor if the vaccine side effects become severe or start to worsen.

Which vaccines are right for me?

Our Seby Medical Center specialist will work with you to determine which vaccinations might be a good fit for you or your children. The decision to get vaccinated is entirely yours however; our specialist will review the pros and cons of each vaccine with you to help you make an informed decision.
